A Look in my Closet: OOTD

It has been a while since I have given you guys a peek into my closet at some of the outfits I have been wearing.  It has been crazy busy, but I did remember to snap some pictures of a few of my recent outfits.  While many of these pieces are no longer available, I have found pieces for you that are similar.  My hope with posting these outfits is that you will use them as inspiration to create your own looks.  That is what I do all the time.  I gain inspiration from all over the place.  I love taking something that is already in my closet and pairing it with something new, which is what I have done with most of these outfits. It is like taking something old and making it current and on trend again.  Check them all out.

Black Friday Tips 2019

The holidays are upon us. Thanksgiving is only a few days away, and we have officially entered the biggest shopping season of the year.  It is certainly the most magical time of the year.  I am a HUGE Black Friday shopper.  It is when I get the bulk of my shopping done.  I know that some of you avoid it like the plague and can’t imagine fighting the crowds.  I totally get that, but I wanted to share with you some tips and tricks that I have learned through the years, that actually make this a day that I look forward to and one that I really enjoy. I shared a similar list last year, but I wanted to share it again with a few updates.

Study and Prepare

The key to a successful Black Friday shopping event is to be prepared.  Start by making a list of everyone you need to get a gift for.  Don’t leave anyone out.  Then brainstorm ideas of possible things that you can get for each person. Having an idea of what you need to buy for everyone on your list will save you time in the long run. Yes, I know that there are always those people on your list that are hard to buy for and that you have no idea what to get.  It is okay to have a few of those, but do not go into Black Friday without some kind of idea for a least the majority of your list. Then, start looking at all of the leaked Black Friday deals to see if you can find the best deals for each person on the list.  Looking through the ads may even give you some ideas for those hard to shop for people.  Then make sure you grab a newspaper on Thanksgiving Day.  This will be filled with all of the adds.  You can also usually find some great coupons in the paper as well.  This will help you with your list too. Check out these sights for some of the Black Friday ads that have already been released.

Target/Walmart/Best Buy/Belk/JC Penny/Macy’s/Nordstrom/Sephora/Ulta/Amazon/Michael’s/AC Moore/Hobby Lobby/Dick’s Sporting Goods/Lowes/Black Friday

Make a Game Plan

Once you have your lists and have found where all the best deals are, you will need to make a game plan.  Decide which stores you need to go to, and then prioritize them.  If you need to get an item that you know is going to sell out, make sure you go to that store first.  This will likely be the hot ticket toys and electronics.  Other things like clothes, jewelry, and shoes can wait until later in the day.  Those things are not as likely to sell out right away. Make sure you check the ads carefully for door buster items that are only on sale for a short period of time.  You want to make sure you hit those windows at the right time.

Set a Budget and Stick to it

This is part of the game plan I mentioned above but deserves its own tip.  Have an idea of what you want to spend on each person on your list and try to stick to it. Trust me, you will thank me later if you follow this tip.  It will help you not overspend. Make sure you plan for meals and snacks for the day too.  Also, don’t forget to include a little extra so you can pamper yourself when you see that must have pair of shoes or adorable sweater on sale.

Go to Bed Early and Get up Early

Make sure that you go to bed early on Thursday night. Even you if plan to do some shopping on Thursday night, don’t stay out too late if you are planning to go again on Friday.   Some stores will be opening as early as 6:00 Thanksgiving night, but I typically like to wait to go on Friday so I can spend time with my family for Thanksgiving.  I can tell you from experience, the more rest you can get ahead of time, the better.  Black Friday shopping is exhausting.  If you are going to go out on Black Friday at all, you need to go early.  The best deals, including door busters, start early.  I feel like this is the best way to ensure you can get everything done and still have time to shop for yourself too!

Shop with a Friend or Family Member

Some of my best memories have been Black Friday shopping with my mom and sister every year as adults.  It really became a tradition for us.  From the Starbucks and Chick fil a first thing in the morning to the peppermint bark at Hallmark at the end of the day when we are exhausted, we have the best time.  We laugh a lot and really just get to spend time together that we don’t get very often.  I highly recommend that you brave the crowds with a friend or family member.  It can be so much fun. Plus, one person can be a space holder in a long line while the other runs to grab items. Last year, I did not get to go with my mom and sister and went by myself.  I have to admit that I did not enjoy it nearly as much.  It was more business than fun when I did it alone, so go with a loved one and just have fun.  I do recommend that you leave your kids at home.  You will not accomplish much if your kids are in tow.  They will be tired and bored, and meltdowns will ensue. You will be miserable and so will they.  However, if your kids are adults, go for it.

Dress Comfortable

Black Friday is not the day to look cute.  You are going to be doing a ton of walking and you need comfortable shoes.  My go to outfit is jeans and tennis shoes, or leggings and comfortable, flat boots.  Dress in layers.  It might be chilly early in the morning, but it will be so hot in some stores from the crowds that you can’t stand it. I recommend a sweater or sweatshirt over a t-shirt that you can tie around your waist. Leave the jackets in the car. Just remember that whatever layers you take off, you will have to carry around with you.

Hydrate and Feed your Body

This is probably one of the most important tips.  Make sure you take time to eat and hydrate.  It will certainly help to have fueled your body when the end of the day rolls around.  Don’t hesitate to splurge on a few goodies as well.  A warm donut, cookie or pretzel will go a long way at lifting your spirits when you are tired.

Choose Your Purse Carefully

This is so important because you will be lugging it around all day.  You don’t want a big heavy purse that weighs you down when you are tired.  I like to take a small crossbody purse with just the essentials.  You do not need to carry everything that you normally carry in your purse day to day.  Clean it out and only bring the things you need for that day.  Your shoulders will thank you later! I prefer crossbody purses for shopping because it is harder for someone to grab and steal it from you when it is across your body and over your head.  Plus, it seems to be a little easier on the shoulders with the weight distribution.

Don’t be Afraid of Lines

I know the long lines can be daunting, but most of them will move faster than you think.  These stores are typically prepared for the influx of shoppers and have extra people on hand to make it run as smoothly and quickly as possible.

Have Fun

The number one rule for a successful Black Friday is to remember to have fun.  Go out there and enjoy shopping for others.  Remember why you are giving them a gift to begin with and know that it will likely put a smile on their face. Don’t forget that you can also do a little shopping for yourself too. You deserve it! I really believe that the experience is about more than just finding the best deal.  It is about making memories that will last a lifetime.  Go out there, shop till you drop, and have the best time ever!

Christmas Gift Guide for Her

Well, I had this post all ready for you yesterday but didn’t get it posted. There were some major technical issues that prevented me from posting it. I believe they have all been resolved now and all the links should be working.

It is that time of year when you are beginning the struggle to find the perfect gifts for your loved ones. It can be a daunting task, but I am going to make that a little easier for you. I have to admit, though, that I am not good at shopping for males. I grew up with just a sister, I only have daughters, and, of course, I am a girl myself. Girls are just more fun to shop for than boys, right?  I am much better with shopping for girls, so today I am sharing gift ideas for all the females in your life from big to small.  (Sorry guys!) These gifts are sure to please any of them.   I promise you can find something on these lists for all the girls in your life. Some of these things are only on sale for a limited time so hurry and get your shop on!

Fashion Finds: Boots

You all know that Target is one of my favorite places for so many reasons, but it is also my favorite place to get affordable shoes that are cute and on trend. We are smack in the middle of fall, and winter is just around the corner, which means that it is boot wearing time.  I love boots of all kinds. Tall, ankle, winter…you name it! I love them all.  I long for the days when I can wear a cute sweater and boots because those are my two favorite things.  Oh, and did you know that Target gives all of their shoes a real person’s name? I think that is so funny! Anyway, I thought I would share with you some of my favorite boots at Target this season. Any of these would make a great addition to your Christmas wish list.  A few of them are definitely on mine (Katherine, Jamison, and Lanae).  Some of them are out of stock in some sizes online, but they are expected to be restocked so keep checking back or visit your local store.

Fashion Finds: Target

I am excited! My Target (you know, my favorite store) is finally getting a makeover and it’s amazing!!! It isn’t done, but it already has so many improvements! My favorite improvement so far is the dressing room.  They finally have the lighted mirrors and more space so that my dressing room selfies are so much clearer! Yay! The only drawback it the glare it leaves on my glasses.  I didn’t realize how bad it was until I got home and started editing the pictures. Oh well, maybe I will just take them off next time.  Anyway, I found so many cute things there to share with all of you! There was so much more, too, but I got tired of trying stuff on.  That only means that I will have to make another trip later on. Haha! Like I ever need an excuse to go to Target! If you haven’t followed me for very long, you will quickly learn that I love cold weather, sweaters, turtlenecks, cardigans, jackets, jeans, and boots! You will see most of those in these outfits. Strangely, several of the pieces I tried on are not available online yet.  However, you should be able to find them in stores so I included what brand they are. Check out all the cuteness I found on this trip.

Jeans/Tunic Sweatshirt

Jeans/Sherpa Hoodie (Universal Thread)

This cardigan is so soft and the picture doesn’t do it justice. It has small hints of pink and purple threads mixed in with the grey.

Sweater Dress

Sweater Dress/Jacket (OBSESSED!) (A New Day)

This jacket is a size too big on me, but I wanted to show you how cute it is.

Jeans/Top/Denim Jacket (Sherpa Lined)

How cute are all of these outfits? Happy Shopping!

Fashion Finds

Because I look and feel like death and have for several days, today’s style post will be a little different.  I didn’t get to do my shopping photo shoot like I had planned because I have felt so bad. I am fighting some really nasty stuff. I ended up at an urgent care place on Saturday because it had gotten pretty bad.  They thought that I might have the flu based on how I looked and felt, but they did not test me for it because it was too late to start meds for it at that point.  Instead they are treating me for an upper respiratory infection, but I am pretty sure the meds aren’t working and it might actually be the flu.  I don’t think I slept for more that 5-10 minutes at a time last night.  Despite taking prescription cough meds, I was coughing ALL NIGHT LONG.  Every inch of my torso aches from coughing so much over the past few days.  Needless to say, I have been miserable.  I almost gave up on posting altogether today, but I just couldn’t do that.  I decided that instead I would share with you a few items that have been on my shopping wish list that may or may not end up in my closet in the weeks to come.  I would like to try some of them on before buying, but it doesn’t look like I am going to get to do that any time soon. Maybe a little online retail therapy is just what the doctor ordered! LOL! Anyway, here are some things I am eyeing right now!

Target-Leopard Slip on Sneakers/Wedge Sneakers/Microsuede Heeled Scrunch Riding Boots

I have actually tried these leopard ones on and almost have bought them twice.  I am obsessed! They are so cute! They really need to be mine! All Target shoes are currently 20% off with Target Circle.

Target-Ribbed Knit Dress (currently on sale)/Hooded Tunic Sweatshirt/Hooded Camo Sweatshirt

Amazon-Color Block Striped Cardigan/Quilted Pullover/Fall Graphic T-Shirt

Amazon-Crossbody Saddle Purse

Old Navy-Sherpa Pullover/Long Cardigan

These two pieces are 40% off TODAY only with code STYLE.

Old Navy-Flannel Shirt/Oversized Scarf/Crewneck Sweater/Diamond Quilted Vest

These pieces are all currently on sale. The Crewneck Sweater is only on sale in certain colors.

Aren’t these all so cute? It did make me feel a little better just looking at them! I haven’t pulled the trigger yet on any of them, but I have a feeling it is coming soon. Here is to hoping I am back to 100% tomorrow! Happy shopping!

A Look in my Closet:OOTD

Fall is finally here where I live.  We experienced some really hot days at the end of September and beginning of October, but we finally cooled down towards the end of last week. I couldn’t be happier! In case you forgot, fall is my favorite season.  I love the cool, crisp air and the gorgeous changing leaves. Cooler temps means a change in my wardrobe.  It isn’t cool enough yet to pull out my sweaters and stuff, but it is cool enough to wear more than shorts and a top.  Today, I wanted to show you how you can take a plain t-shirt from your summer wardrobe and spruce it up for fall. I did this by adding things I already had in my closet.  It is a peek into my closet but with a theme today.  I took a navy, black, white, grey, and olive green t-shirt and turned them into cute fall outfits.   All I did was add some accessories and cute shoes.

I hope you can get some ideas of how you can take a simple summer t-shirt and turn it into a cute fall outfit by adding accessories and a pair of jeans.

Looks for Less

I don’t know about all of you, but sometimes I will find a shirt or a skirt or other piece that I fall in love with, but then I will not know what to pair it with.  It will often end up sitting in my closet unworn for a while until I can find something cute to pair it with.  I love when I can walk into a store and see an outfit put together on a mannequin and can just buy the whole outfit.  Well, I have taken the guesswork out of it for you today and put together 10 fall outfits from two of my favorite stores. The clothes come from the The Loft Outlet (50% off online purchase + addition 15% off with code CYBER15 today only), and the shoes and accessories are from Target. They are all so cute, and I am working really hard to resist ordering some of them for myself! I did a little pattern mixing, added touches of animal print, and found some of the cutest accessories.
