What is my Style?

My life has been pretty crazy lately with the house renovations, preparing to move, gymnastics (Meet season is finally over!!!) and cheer competitions (We were in Atlantic City this past weekend).  Unfortunately, that means that I haven’t had time to go shopping for you guys, photograph my outfits, or do any research. Because of this, today’s style post will be a little different. I wanted to talk to you about style in general. Recently, I told someone about my blog and mentioned that I share style tips and tricks and affordable fashion finds.  That person asked me what my style was.  I have to be honest and say that I have never really thought about that question, and I really didn’t know how to answer it. I guess if I really think about it, I am a mixture of several styles.  I don’t really think that I fit into one style box.  Some of you that know me and see my daily outfits or those of you that read this blog may have a different opinion on my style, and I would be very interested to hear what you think.  A lot of people will say that your style sort of helps define who you are and what you are all about.  I would agree that is true for the most part.  I think people dress how they feel, to show their personality, and, in a way, to show what their interests are or what their profession is.  I even wrote a post recently about how you can tell a lot about a person by just their shoes.  I think my style kind of reflects my weird idea of perfection and my OCD tendencies. I feel like I am always “put together” or at least try to be. I don’t think that is a real style, but it really does describe mine in a way. You will probably never (or vary rarely) see me without makeup, my hair done, and dressed nicely with accessories!

When I think about different style types, there are so many that come to mind. It is hard to even list all of them.  There are some that I can say that I am definitely not, like grunge, rocker, or Gothic. Then there are some that I think could definitely describe me like classic, preppy, and a little trendy. I think that classic probably fits my style best now, but I think in my younger years I was more preppy.  I do think that I try to stay on trend, but I tend to go with more classic trends than the trends that are a little more out there. What makes me more classic is that I look for small ways to add in the latest trends into what I already have, those classic basics.  For example, you all know that I love the camo trend, but I am not going to go full on camo.  I will add in a cute pair of camo print shoes with a simple white tee and jeans. Another example is with the animal print trend.  As you can see above, I just added an animal print scarf to a pretty basic outfit to give it a little more edge. I am certainly not edgy, but you get what I mean. Check out this post from HerInterest entitled 20 Types of Fashion Styles. I think that I fit could fit into the Trendy and Casual styles, with a little bit of Preppy, Girly, and Girl Next Door based on their descriptions. I also took a Style Type Quiz from Visual Therapy, and the results showed my style as 70% Classic and 30% Chic. It read, “If you’re Classic, you like simple, clean, and traditional pieces. You opt for a timeless look because the silhouette and colors rarely change. It’s always ladylike, classic, and often tailored.” Then it defined Chic as, “a powerful look and sharp lines that seem to come together in an effortless way. It is often monochromatic and combined with bold accessories.” I would tend to agree that both of those could describe my style.

I like to say that my style is fairly casual on a day to day basis when I am at home or running errands, but I have friends that will tell you that my idea of casual is not the same definition of casual that they have.  Whenever we go somewhere and everyone says not to dress up, I get fussed at because they always think my outfit is not casual enough. My idea of casual is a pair of jeans and a cute sweatshirt or sweater with boots like the star sweatshirt above with cute jewelry or the anchor tee and cardigan with jeans and boots.  I even think that a simple cotton dress with some converse is casual. As it begins to get warm, you will start to see me in a lot of dresses with sandals or cute sneakers.  My friends think that yoga pants and a t-shirt is casual. While I do love some comfy yoga pants, you will rarely ever find me out in public dressed like that no matter where I am going or what I am doing.  Even if I am lounging around the house on a rainy day and not going anywhere, I am going to get up, shower, get dressed, add jewelry, put on makeup, and do my hair. It’s just who I am. I can’t be any other way.

If you were to walk into my closet, you would see a lot of black.  Black is classic.  Black can go with anything.  You can take a simple black dress, a black t-shirt or a black pair of pants or jeans and really add anything to it to step it up a bit.  Black is a staple in my wardrobe.  You will see colors in my wardrobe but nothing too bright or outrageous, but you will see a lot of black. I believe everyone should have a basic black dress, black t-shirt (long and short sleeve), black blouse, black cardigan, black tank top, black pencil skirt, black leggings, black jeans, and a black pair of dress pants. I know that sounds like a lot of black, but you can do so much with just those pieces. Maybe I will do a post on just that soon and show you how you can transform those basic pieces into numerous outfits.  You can see just a few examples above.  Black really is a go to for me.  I would even venture to say that probably 50% of my wardrobe is some version of black.

Jeans are a staple in my wardrobe as well. I wear jeans year round.  I just really like jeans.  I think they are comfortable (my youngest would totally disagree) and easy to wear. I love that they come in various shapes, styles, and colors.  I love that they can be casual or dressed up.  I love that you can wear them with just about anything.  I love jeans! I have so many pair that it is kind of obscene. I have skinny jeans, cropped jeans, cuffed jeans, boot cut jeans, straight leg jeans, capris, shorts, and jeans in just about every color or shade you can think of.  They really are a daily staple for me.

I guess that is my style in a nutshell, classic chic, put together casual with a little bit of trendiness.  LOL! I think I just made up my own category.  How do you think you would describe my style? What is your style? Let me know your thoughts.

Fashion Finds: Shoes

Let’s talk shoes.  I’m not sure that I really know very many women that do not have an intense love for shoes.  Shoes are something that we all need to protect our feet, but a woman’s love for shoes goes much deeper than the need for protection.  If we only bought shoes to protect our feet, then we would never buy heels or shoes that don’t really fit but you had to have them anyway. Designers have really captured women’s love of shoes and have capitalized on it. They have helped to create women that are obsessed.I know I am!  I love strolling through the shoe aisles at various stores and own way more shoes than I could ever wear, yet I am always wanting to buy more.  Shoes are one way to really demonstrate your personal style.  Whether you are heels kind of girl or a sneakers kind of girl, shoes can tell your story.  They can tell if you are a business woman, a teacher, a nurse, an athlete, or a stay at home mom. They can tell if you are fun and flirty or casual and comfortable or even your social status.    Sometimes you can be a little bit of everything like me.  You can even tell the personalities of my daughters by their shoes.  One is all about style and fashion and she would wear heels and wedges every single day if we let her.  She hates athletic shoes or any kind of sneaker.  Then my other child is sporty and chill. She wouldn’t be caught dead in heels or wedges.  She would have 50 different pair of athletic shoes if we let her. I even have to force her to wear sandals with a dress.

As I said, shoes can tell your story.  With that, there are so many different styles, shapes, and colors of shoes. Shoes range from heels to flats to wedges to flip flops and more. I went online shoe shopping for you all and have compiled a list of some of my favorites styles for spring.

The Wedge

The wedge is a great shoe for spring and summer.  I typically think of fun and flirty when it comes to a wedge wearer. Then again, I have several wedges that I wear all the time, and I’m not sure I would categorize myself as fun and flirty. LOL! I love every single one of these! These are my top 4 types of shoes that go great with any spring or summer outfit.

  1. Ankle Strap Wedge (Target)
  2. Animal Print Wedge (Target)
  3. Espadrille Wedge (Target)
  4. Classic Wedge (Famous Footwear)
  5. Espadrille Wedge (Famous Footwear)

The Flat

When it comes to a great work shoe, you can’t go wrong with a cute flat. They are much easier on your feet than heels and way more comfortable. All of these come in various fun colors.

  1. Chambray Flats (Old Navy)
  2. Sling-back (Old Navy)
  3. Ballet Flat (Target)
  4. Animal Print Flat (Target)

The Flip Flop

Flip flop wearers cover a wide range of people and are all about comfort and ease! Choose ones that are comfortable and stylish. The plastic, rubbery flips flops are fine for the beach, pool, or hanging around the house. However, you should go for a more stylish pair to up your outfit for any other occasion.

  1. Rocket Dog Flip Flops (Famous Footwear)
  2. Billabong Flip Flops (Famous Footwear)
  3. Wedge Roxy Flip Flops (Famous Footwear)
  4. Flip Flops (Old Navy)
  5. Braided Flip Flops (Target)

The Slip On Sneaker

Sneakers are sort of a universal shoe.  I can bet that almost everyone has at least one pair of athletic sneakers, but that is not the sneaker I am talking about today. I am talking about the new trend back from the 90’s…the slip on sneakers! These are especially popular with teens, but I think that anyone can wear them.  They are a great with jeans, shorts, and some casual dresses.  You guys know that I practically live in my converse! Honestly, I love this trend and I am glad that it seems to be sticking around. There are so many great pairs. It was hard to limit the ones I wanted to show you, and I want them all!

  1. Roxy (Famous Footwear)
  2. Dr. Scholl’s (Famous Footwear)
  3. Camo (Famous Footwear)
  4. Slip on Athletic Sneaker (Target)
  5. Quilted Sneakers (Target)
  6. Slip On Sneaker (Old Navy)
  7. Converse (Famous Footwear)
  8. White Vans (Famous Footwear)

What story do your shoes tell about you? My story and shoe collection is always evolving. When I was in the classroom daily, I was a flats and wedges kind of girl. Now I am more of a slip on sneaker kind of girl. I think that my shoes say that I love fashion and trends but without breaking the bank! I certainly don’t need an expensive pair of Luis Vuitton shoes, but I do like everyday, affordable style. Oh, and I am all about comfort! Comfortable, affordable, and stylish…that’s me!

Anchored in Style,

Fashion Finds: Target

I am getting a late start today. I had a bunch of stuff to take care of this morning before I could sit down and focus on this post.  We have had a crazy few days with so many things going on.  My youngest had a two-day cheer competition over the weekend where she and her team rocked it and are the new BATC National Champions! It was insane! I lost my voice from screaming and cheering so much.  As I have said before, we are still getting used to the whole cheer world as it is very different than the gymnastics world that we have been in for years.  The 2.5 minutes that they are up there performing is so nerve wracking and exciting at the same time. Anyway, that took up all of my weekend so I feel like I am way behind on everything now.  The laundry has really piled up! Then you have the whole dumb daylight savings thrown in the mix, and I feel like I am going to be playing catch-up all week long. Oh well, it is what it is, I guess!

Today I have some new cute outfits that I found for you at Target.  Even though we had snow last week and it’s still cold here, I figured it was time for me to check out the spring/summer pieces that are out in all the stores. I tried on a ton of things and found some really cute pieces and some pieces that looked way cuter on the hanger than on me. I even tried on a couple of bathing suits! Gasp! I know! My pale self was not bathing suit ready for sure! Needless to say, I will NOT be showing you pictures of that! LOL! If you are looking for a bathing suit, though, they do have some cute ones. I know the dressing room ladies are getting tired of me. I try on so many things, and I try to put them all back so they don’t have to. They still have to count how many pieces I have each time. Oh well! Check out some of my favorite pieces that I found.

I LOVE this dress! It can pretty much be worn year round.  Adding a red scarf with tights and booties would be so adorable for the colder days or adding a statement necklace in turquoise or yellow would be cute for the spring with some wedges.

I am still on the fence about this one.  I love a cute romper/jumpsuit, but I’m not sure if the flowers are a little too overpowering for me.  I would not normally wear a pattern quite this bold, but I kind of like it. I do like the fit of this, too. The legs are a little long so I would definitely have to wear a heeled wedge with it.  I think I could probably have gone down a size in this as well.

Ok, I am obsessed with this skirt! I love wearing high-waist skirts like this with a shirt tucked in because it defines the smallest part of my body.  It has an elastic waist that can be tightened with the bow on the side.  It has pockets, and it’s super comfortable.  I LOVE it! I am wearing a medium, but I think I could wear a small in this as well because I had to pull the ribbon a good bit to make it tight.  I think the sizing is very flexible, though. You can’t tell in this picture, but the skirt drops just below my knees.

There were so many other cute things there that I wanted to try on, but I ran out of time.  If you have the chance, go to Target! You know it is my favorite store, and it never disappoints.  As I was perusing the bathing suits, I also saw some cover-ups that were adorable.  They have tons of shorts too in lots of different colors. There is just so much goodness! Go check it out!

Fashion Finds: Purses

I thought I would switch things up a little today.  Instead of showing you clothes, I thought I would share another love of mine…purses. Honestly, I don’t know many women that don’t love their purses.  I have a very large collection myself ranging from inexpensive purses from Target to more expensive name brands like Coach (which happens to be my favorite brand). You don’t have to spend a fortune to find a cute purse that you love, but I think it is totally okay to splurge every now and then on something that costs a little more. I will tell you that I have never paid full price for any of my name brand purses.  I either get them on super clearance at an outlet, or from places like TJ Maxx. I have put together a list of some different styles, patterns, and colors that I am loving right now.  No, I do not own all of these, but they are all super cute.  They are also in a variety of price ranges.

I used to be obsessed with using big totes as my purse to fit all the things, but lately I am more into crossbody’s and wristlets. I am tired of being weighed down by all the stuff in my purse.  Smaller ones force me to not fill them up with junk! Mini fashion backpacks are very on trend right now too.  I haven’t jumped on that bandwagon yet, but I have been eyeing a couple of them for a while. I especially like the ones that are convertible and can be worn as a backpack or a shoulder bag. Anyway, I have found several different styles for you depending on your individual style and needs.

  1. Gifting Clutch-A New Day True White (Target)
  2. Mosaic Clutch (Trades of Hope)
  3. Zip-Top Charging Wristlet Clutch (Old Navy)
  4. Vince Camuto Boadi Clutch (Nordstrom Rack)
  5. Kate Spade New York Women’s Cameron Street Eliza Wristlet (Amazon)

Fashion Finds: Walmart

I know what you are thinking. I know you saw the title of this post and thought that I’ve lost my mind. Trust me, I know what I am doing. A year or two ago I would have agreed with you. I would never have gone into Walmart looking for clothes for myself. Yes, I have shopped there for clothes for the kids before when they were younger and to get solid color shirts to put vinyl on or a sweatshirt every now and then, but I would never have gone in there looking for anything that I would consider fashionable.  You guys, Walmart has stepped up their game. Now, there are still many clothes in there that I would absolutely never wear and that are what I would consider typical Walmart brand clothes. However, if you are really looking, you can find some things that are really cute.  I was hesitant to go in there to look for stuff for this post because I was afraid that I wouldn’t find enough things for a post or that I wouldn’t find anything at all.  You guys, I found so many cute things that I had to narrow it down to the few I am going to show you today.  You all know that I love fashion and clothes, but I love fashion even better when it is affordable. I don’t think that you have to spend a fortune to look fashionable and put together. Again, though, you have to really have the time to look for the little gems because they aren’t going to just jump out at you. I will say that the sizing in some of the clothes was a little off.  All of the tops I tried on were pretty true to size, but I had to size up one size in all of the pants that I am showing you, so keep that in mind when you are shopping. There are also several pieces that are available in stores but not online.

Where I live, it is still winter, so it’s still cold, but I know that my friends down south are having spring/summer weather because it was 80 degrees when I went to Florida a few days ago.  Most of the stores started putting spring items out as soon as Christmas was over, so that’s really all you can find now. Many of the pieces I will show you today are more springy than wintery, but they are just too cute not to share. Take a look at what I found.

Sleeveless Dress

This little dress is simple, comfortable, and cute all wrapped in to one.  The best part is that it has POCKETS! Anything with pockets gets bonus points in my mind.  This dress came in a couple of other colors as well, but it doesn’t look like the berry color is available online. These two were my favorite.  If it’s still cold where you live, you could throw on a cute cardigan or jean jacket and add some fun leggings and you would be good to go.

Floral Bell-Sleeve Top

White Denim Pants with Cuff (not available online)

Please excuse the white socks in all of these pictures! I didn’t plan that very well. This top is so cute and florals are very on trend right now.  These pants are super comfortable and stretchy.  The only draw back to them is that the pockets in the front are not real pockets which is kind of a bummer. I would size up one size in these.

Bell-Sleeve Top

Floral Jeggings (not available online)

This top is the same top as the floral one above, but it’s just in a solid color. There were several colors and patterns to choose from.  The bell sleeves are very popular right now. These pants are jeggings with an elastic waistband. They are super stretchy and comfortable. I absolutely love the floral pattern and colors against the navy background.  I would size up one size in these as well.

Bell-Sleeve Top

White Jeans (not available online)

This is the same top again, and I paired it with the same white jeans as above to show you a different way to wear it.  I know some of you won’t be a fan of the flower pants above, so I wanted to show another option that is just as cute.

Floral Dolman Top

Frayed Hem Jeans

I absolutely love these pants. They come in a variety of spring colors, and I want them all. These pants are also stretchy and comfortable. These do have real pockets in the front and a frayed edge at the bottom. They are perfect for spring. I sized up one size in these as well. This top is very cute as well and is really soft.

Graphic Hoodie

I cannot even begin to describe to you how soft this sweatshirt is.  It is curl up on the couch with a good book soft. I love the lace up side that gives it a more feminine fit.  I really preferred the one that says “Good Vibes “but they didn’t have it in my size. The other one says “I Love Me.” There were a couple of other ones too in more colors, but these two were my favorites.

Striped Sweater (not available online)

Stripes! That’s all I’m going to say! LOL! It looks like it has a spot on it in the middle, but that is actually a smudge on the mirror.

Top (not available online)

This was just a fun little shirt that is very soft, and I thought it was cute. I just love the detail on the shoulder.

Crossbody Purse (not available online)

Crossbody Purse (not available online)

Mini Backpack

I actually have several of these shoes in different colors from previous seasons, and they are so comfortable with their memory foam insert.

Striped Flats with Bow (not available online)

Ruffle Wedge

I hope that I have convinced you to give Walmart a try every now and then.  Really get in there and look for those hidden gems because you will find them.  Look past the stuff that jumps out at you when you walk through the door to see the good stuff.  I did actually purchase a couple of these pieces that you will see make a reappearance in future posts for my OOTD.  Can you guess which ones?

A Look into my Closet: OOTD

I am sad to say that I didn’t get my Friday Favorites post up last week, but it was for a good reason! My oldest was competing in her first high school state championship meet all day Friday and her team won!!! They are State Champions for the second year in a row! They blew the completion away, but it was still a nail biter for the parents! Man those things are stressful for all of us watching in the stands trying to calculate the scores from all the other schools and make sure we stayed on top after each event.  I think all of the moms were holding their breaths as each one of our girls got up to compete. Then we turned around and did the same thing the next day for the individual state championships.  My daughter competed on bars on Saturday.  It wasn’t her best performance by far with a fall (she never falls on bars), but, in her defense, they were all thoroughly exhausted after Friday. I am proud of her for giving it her best effort! She was bummed, but I think most of it was just pure exhaustion.

Anyway, on to the topic of today….a peek in my closet.  I have had really good responses and feedback from when I did these posts in the past so I will try to do them one or two times a month.  As I have said before, many of the things in my closet are things that I have had for a long time and are no longer available for purchase.  I always try to find something similar for you, but the point of these posts is for you to get inspiration to put together outfits from things you already have in your closet.  You don’t need to copy my exact outfit.  Just be inspired.  Some of the pieces I have shown before when I have done my selfie shots in the dressing rooms of my favorite stores.  You can see how I put those pieces together in an outfit.

Fashion Finds: Amazon

Wow! It has been a crazy few weeks for us and it doesn’t seem to be slowing anytime soon.  From closing on our new house, prepping our current house for showings, scheduling renovations, gymnastics meets, and cheer competitions to everyday life, I am exhausted! I haven’t really had enough time to prep outfits and photograph them for you. Instead, I have done a little digging on Amazon to find some really cute pieces for you.  Now, I know that some of you are skeptical about buying clothes from Amazon, and I will say that some of their clothes are not the best quality. However, I have found that there are some brands that actually come as pictured and described, and I have ended up with some cute pieces from there. My recommendation would be to check the reviews. Most people are usually pretty honest about the quality of the product. I also like to look at ay pictures posted by people that have bought it. Normally, I don’t like to recommend something to you that I haven’t physically tried on myself, but I have done my research and checked all the reviews.  I feel good about these pieces and may end up ordering some of them for myself in the future. Check out what I have found for you today!

Long Sleeve Maxi Dress

This dress has great reviews.  It comes in multiple vibrant colors. I don’t think there is a color option that I don’t like.  They are all so pretty.  In fact, several reviewers actually went back and purchased this dress on other colors because they loved it so much. The best part of this dress, though, is that it has POCKETS! It looks great worn as is, but it also looks great belted or knotted at the bottom with booties or even with a scarf or cute statement necklace. You really can’t go wrong with a basic maxi dress.

Long Sleeve Lace Detail Tunic

This top in the long sleeve version has great reviews, and I have had my eye on it for a while. However, the short sleeve version does not have good reviews.  Many stated that the short sleeve version was a different, thinner material, so I recommend that you go with the long sleeve version.  I love the look of this top.  It is great paired with leggings or skinny jeans.  It has a high/low hem with it being longer in the back, but both the front and back are long enough to cover all your business! The lace detail adds such a feminine touch to a regular tee.  This one comes in various colors that are all great.

Chiffon High Waist Pleated Skirt

This skirt is adorable and versatile.  Some customers purchased it to wear to a wedding, as a bridesmaid dress, or for family pictures. It can totally be dressed up or down. I think it would look great with a tank for the summer or with a fitted long sleeve t-shirt. It is a thin chiffon material, which makes it very flowy and twirl-tastic! I personally really like high waist skirts to accent the smallest part of my body since I am bigger in the hips.  The reviewers said to size up if you are taller.  The waist is elastic and flexible in sizing, but you need to size up for the length of the skirt if you are tall.  Be sure to check out the pictures in the reviews for some great ideas on how to wear this skirt.

Striped Cardigan

You guys know that I love my stripes and my cardigans, and I absolutely love the look of this cardigan.  I love the snap detail because it is fun and unusual. I also really like the length of this cardigan.  It’s a bit longer than your typical cardigan but it’s not considered a duster cardigan either. It’s somewhere in the middle of the two. The color options are great too.  Super cute! If you have a larger chest, order a size up.

Fitted Turtleneck

Some people aren’t a fan of turtlenecks, but I absolutely love them. I always have. I especially love fitted ones like this. I like to wear them with a half tuck and a cute leopard belt and boots.  It is such a classic look. This turtleneck is said to have a nice thick fabric. Reviewers also mentioned that the neck holds its shape, which is a critical component. I hate when the neck droops.  If I could, I would probably get this in every single color because that’s how much I love turtlenecks, but black is by far my favorite.  You can do so much with a good black turtleneck as a staple in your wardrobe. Some say to size up in this due to how fitted it is.

Short Sleeve Sleepwear

These PJs are so cute. They come in several color combinations, and they even have some in stripes, polka dot, plaid, and Christmas patterns. Most reviewers said they were the best pajamas ever and that they were incredibly soft. I typically just wear a t-shirt and pair of shorts or pajama pants to sleep in, but there are those occasions (like a girls trip) where I like to have a nicer set of pajamas to sleep in to look cute.  I might just have to try these out myself!

Under Armour Hoodie

You can’t go wrong with a basic hoodie or a brand like Under Armour. I love wearing a hoodie on those days where I am not going anywhere and am just lounging around the house with noting going on.  Sometimes I will thrown on a hoodie to take my kids to school in the mornings if I haven’t showered yet. This is a fleece hoodie that is pretty plain and simple, yet it is warm and cozy.  I also like that the Under Armour logo is subtle and not in your face like some of their hoodies.  This one comes in several colors and is a great buy.

Large Scarf

I had to put in a scarf for you all.  This one is so good! I love all of the color combinations and the many ways you can wear this particular scarf. For some tips on how to style a scarf different ways, check out this post

There really are some things on Amazon that are cute and fashionable and great quality. Don’t be afraid to try things if you like the look. Just read the reviews. The worst case is that you have to return it, but Amazon returns are fairly easy. You really have nothing to loose.

A Look in My Closet-OOTD

We had a very nice and relaxing weekend, which I am really happy about because we will be traveling for the next 7 weekends straight for either gymnastics or cheer.  When I say traveling, I mean really traveling, too. We aren’t just going to surrounding cities. We are traveling out of state multiple times. I am not looking forward to it.  Don’t get me wrong, I love watching my kids compete, but I know that it is going to be exhausting.  My husband and I even have to divide and conquer for the first time, as there are times that both girls have a competition on the same weekend in totally opposite directions.   That should be very interesting since my husband has never taken one of them to a competition alone locally or out of state.  There is some worry about how hair is going to get done, but I have faith that it will all work out.  I think my daughter and I are much more worried about it than he is, of course.  Anyway, things are about to get crazy around here so I really enjoyed doing nothing for a couple of days.

Today I am giving you another look into my closet to see what I have been wearing over the past week. As usual, many of the pieces that I am wearing are piece that I have had for a while and are no longer available for purchase.  I have tried to find some similar pieces where you can get a similar look.  My goal is for you to uses these posts as inspiration to up your wardrobe either by using things you already own to create a similar look or by purchasing items that fit your style.

Fashion Finds: Old Navy

It’s Monday and it’s back to the grind.  We had a pretty calm weekend, which is quite rare these days as there were no gymnastics meets or cheer competitions.  We just had the normal practice schedule.  It was kind of nice.  I got a lot of stuff done, including a little dressing room photo shoot for you guys from Old Navy.  They had so many cute new things out that my arms were tired from carrying it all back and forth to the dressing room.  They did have a lot of adorable things for spring including a bunch of short sleeve and sleeveless tops and dresses.  I did not try many of those things on because I just am not ready for that yet since it is still pretty cold here. For those of you down south that have warm weather, you may want to go check out their spring line.  Old Navy was also having a pretty good sale, which is always a plus.  I would say that about half of the things that I tried on were on sale. For this trip to the store, I seemed to be attracted to polka dots (you know I love them), the color yellow (not typically a fave), and the new color of 2019…coral. There were so many cute polka dot things that I had to force myself not to try on every single one. The struggle was real! Below of some of my favorites from the day. Please ignore the crazy hair standing up everywhere! These clothes were full a static!

Color-block Tee

This is just a regular old long sleeve t-shirt, but I like that it is a little longer in length.  It has a rounded hem versus a straight boxy hem, which I also like.  The color blocking with the navy and coral just makes it fun.  They had this shirt in a couple of other color blocks and in solid colors. I am wearing a large for a more relaxed fit.

Utility Jacket

I absolutely loved this jacket.  I might have a slight obsession with jackets.  The light pink makes this utility jacket look very feminine.  I am wearing a large in the pic, but I felt that it was a little too big.  Unfortunately, they were sold out of mediums at my store, or I may have purchased it because it was 50% off.

Anchor TeeLong Cardigan

As a navy wife, I love anchors and this cute little short sleeve tee was a must have.  It is so cute! I am wearing a large for a more relaxed fit. I typically size up in tees because I don’t like them fitted.  I then saw this adorable, long cardigan and had to show it to you as well.  The two go perfectly together. The cardigan hits me just above my knees, has pockets, and is super soft.  The blue is such a good shade! This cardigan is only available online in plus-size right now, but it is available in stores. I am wearing a medium in the cardigan.

Tunic SweatshirtYellow Scarf

I am in love with this tunic sweatshirt! I love that is has the high-low hem because it would be so great to wear with leggings.  This one is sort of an oatmeal color, which was the only color available in my store, but there are other colors available online.  I am wearing a medium, and it is super soft. I thought it looked great paired with this fun yellow scarf for a nice pop of color.

Shirt Dress

Please excuse my pasty white legs in this dress! I LOVE this shirt dress.  It is so adorable. The vibrant colors of the flowers against the navy background really pop.  It is super cute! I am wearing a medium.

This shirt was not one of my favorites as it is a little busy for me, but I love the style of the shirt and surprisingly the color. The ruffle on the shoulders adds a feminine touch. I am wearing a medium.

Peplum Top

This shirt is super cute with the blue pinstripes and peplum style.  I am wearing a medium.

Tie Cuff Twill Top

These two shirts are the exact same style shirt but just in two totally different colors and patterns. I love them both.  Even thought they are the same, they give two completely different looks. They have a little knot tied at the bottom of the sleeve, which is a cute detail.  I absolutely love the polka dot one.  It is adorable.  Again, I am not typically a fan of yellow or floral patterns, but I really like this top.  I am wearing two different sizes in these two shirts, and I think that gives them a totally different look too.  I am wearing a medium in the polka dot for a more fitted look and a large in the yellow for a more relaxed fit.

Button Top

This shirt has the same neckline as the two above, but it doesn’t have the cute knot detail on the sleeve and it buttons all the way down.  This one has a blue pinstripe and small red rectangles on it to add a little flare. I am wearing a medium but would probably size up if I bought it for more room in the chest area.

This hoodie is simple and plain and comes in several colors.  I love that it is so soft and is something great to throw on to feel comfy and cute.  I also like that it is a bit shorter in the waist than your typical hoodie. I am wearing a medium.  You can size up for a more slouchy feel and longer waist if desired.

This is another cute floral dress, but I did not like it as much as the shirt dress above.  This one is cinched in the waist with elastic to give the top more of a blousy feel and to give you a more defined waist. You can button the neck to give you a keyhole, but I preferred it open on me. I am wearing a medium.

Boat Neck Top

I LOVE this shirt! First, it is in the color of 2019, coral.  Second, it has polka dots. Third, the knot detail on the ¾ sleeves is adorable. It is so cute! I sized up to a large in this one for a more relaxed fit, but I could easily wear the medium.

Ballet FlatsSlingback Flats

How adorable are these shoes??? I love them both.  Both come in several colors but these two are my favorites.

That’s a wrap on my Old Navy shopping trip.  I will tell you that I wanted to buy most of what I tried on, but I was good and refrained! There were so many other things that I wanted to try on too, but I just ran out of time! I will certainly make a trip back soon.  Maybe by then I will be in the mood to show you some of the cute things for spring.  Go check it all out. Tell me which is your favorite?

Fashion Finds: Target

I hope everyone is enjoying the day off today like I am.  We had a busy weekend with practices, competitions, a home remodeling expo, and a little time for shopping. I am certainly enjoying just hanging at the house today doing laundry and relaxing.  I don’t think we will venture out except to do our usual practice drop off this afternoon.  It is super cold and crazy windy here today.  The wind chill is -2 degrees right now with a temp of 14 degrees. I like the cold but that’s a bit too cold for even me.  I am happy to stay in my warm, cozy house while it sounds like the walls will cave in any minute from the wind.

In between practice drop off and leaving to head to the cheer competition, I was able to squeeze in a little trip to Target to check out their new inventory after the holiday clearance.  Of course the first thing I saw when I walked in the door was what you see above…a ton of bathing suits! No thank you! I am not ready for those while there is literally snow on the ground outside. Maybe my friends down south would be interested in those, but you will just have to go to the store yourself because I will not be modeling any swimwear for you, probably ever! That’s one line I highly doubt I will ever cross.  I just walked right past that section without stopping. I had my shopping cart with me as I strolled through all the clothes.  By the time I finished, I had quite the buggy full of clothes to try on. The one thing I hate about trying on clothes is that you can’t take them all in with you at once so you have to find a place to leave your cart that won’t be in the way and that won’t get stolen. Once I found a spot, I grabbed my 6 items and started trying on. When I was done with those 6, I had to put my clothes back on and go back to my buggy to grab 6 more.  Let’s just say that I did this 3 or 4 times because there were so many pieces that grabbed my eye.  Not all that I tried on was something that I loved, so I picked a few of my favorites to show you.  No, I did not buy all of these, but they were definitely things that I considered.

Blue Polka Dot Sweatshirt

This top is super cute. The sleeves are more of a bubble sleeve which gives is a dressier look than just a plain old sweatshirt. My only drawback with it and why I didn’t purchase it is that it is cropped a little. I felt that it was a little too short for my long torso and my comfort level. Just for reference, I usually wear a medium, but I sized up in this to a large for a better fit and a little more length.

Grey Cardigan

I LOVE this cardigan. First of all, it is crazy soft, which is always a plus.  Second, it is a great neutral color that can go with so many things. It even comes in a lighter shade of grey online. The best part of all, though, is that it has POCKETS! I love anything with pockets.  This is the item that I may regret not buying, but I really tried to exhibit some self-restraint.

Stripped Hoodie

You guys know that I love stripes and this hoodie was totally calling my name.  I think it was the first thing I threw in the cart to try on. It’s cute and comfortable. Can you really go wrong with a hoodie? This is another item that I may regret not purchasing because it was so my style.

Cream PulloverPink Skinny Jeans

This outfit was super cute. The top is crazy soft.  I am wearing a small, which is a little too small for me (excuse my rolls), but they didn’t have a medium. I really wanted to try it on, though, because it is so soft. This top also comes in grey with cream stripes, but I didn’t like it as much as the cream. Online, it shows it also in burgundy and charcoal grey. I like this cream one paired with these pink jeans a lot.  If it had fit, I probably would have purchased this outfit.

Floral Blouse

I don’t typically wear a lot of red or florals, but I was drawn to this top for some reason.  It is a silky material and would pair great with a pair of black pants for a nice work outfit. If I were still teaching, I may have purchased this piece.

Star Sweatshirt

This sweatshirt is beyond soft.  It has sort of a vintage feel to it and I could not resist it.  This is one of the ones that I had to have.  In the picture I am wearing a medium but I sized up and got a large in this one for a more relaxed fit since it a juniors cut. It is so cute!

Stripped Romper

I was really on the fence about this romper.  Part of me loved it and part of me hated it.  I liked how the stripes made me look tall and thin, but I also felt clownish in the stripes.  What do you think?

Black SweaterLeopard Pants

This is the one outfit that I did end up purchasing.  I loved it so much.  These pants feel like leggings but they aren’t. They are also ankle length on me. This sweater pairs perfectly with them.  I will totally rock this outfit with my heeled ankle boots and will be date night ready.

Polka Dot Utility JacketBlack T-Shirt

In case you haven’t figured it out yet, I love polka dots just about as much as I love stripes, if that is even possible. I LOVE this jacket so much.  I really wanted it, but I didn’t end up buying it. They only had it in a large in the store, and I felt like it was a little too big for me.  I just may have to order it, though, because it so adorable.  It even has a button so you can roll up the sleeves if you wanted to.  I just cannot tell you how much I love this jacket.  It was definitely my favorite of all the things I tried on.

Polka Dot Purse

Remember how I just said that I love polka dots? As I was heading to the checkout line, I passed this adorable polka dot purse.  I mean, come on! How cute is it? I had some restraint and did not purchase it, but I couldn’t resist showing it to you all.  I love how cute and dainty it looks.  It would be a great purse for spring.

Tangerine Purse

This was just another purse that was next to the polka dot one that caught my eye as a super fun color.  This would be another purse that is great for spring or just to add a pop of color to your outfit now. It doesn’t look like this particular color is avaible online right now, but this same purse is available in other colors online including a pretty berry pink.

I love trying on clothes and finding cute pieces.  I will tell you that there were many more pieces that I tried on that were also really great, but these were my favorites.  Head on over to your Target for a little me time and some retail therapy! Happy shopping!
